Santander Cycles and Lime are excellent for a single, short, point-to-point ride. Neither delivers a bike to your hotel, fits a child seat, or handles a family or group. Here's how the three main ways to hire a bike in London actually differ, so you can pick the right one for your trip.
Santander Cycles (Transport for London's docked bike-share scheme) and Lime (a dockless, app-based e-bike operator) are both built for quick, self-service, single-rider journeys between two points, paid for by the minute or the half-hour. A delivered hire from London Bicycle Concierge is a different kind of product: the bike comes to your hotel, Airbnb or apartment, set up for however long you've booked it and for whoever's riding it - including children - and we collect it from the same address afterwards. Neither is "better" outright; they suit different trips.
Figures below are the public pricing and mechanics each scheme publishes as of September 2026 - always confirm current rates on their own sites before you travel, as these change from time to time.
You need one bike, for one short ride, and you're happy finding a docking station or locating a parked bike on an app. You're travelling light, without children, and cost-per-minute matters more than convenience. These schemes are genuinely good at this - it's what they're built for.
You want the bike at your hotel when you're ready, not the other way round. You're travelling with children, as a family, or as a group who all need matched bikes. You want the bike for a full day, several days, or you'd like a private guided tour rather than navigating alone. See our guides to family cycling, group and corporate hire, and multi-day hire.
I'll help you work out whether a delivered hire, a guided tour or something else fits your trip best - just tell me what you're planning. No call centre, no booking form that disappears into a queue - every enquiry comes to me directly, and I answer it myself.
