Family Cycling

Family Cycling
in London

Yes, you can hire a bike with a child seat in London, and yes, there are children's bikes in a range of sizes too. Everything is delivered to your hotel, Airbnb or apartment already fitted, with a private guided tour available that's paced specifically for children.

The Short Answer

Every Age, Covered

A family booking is handled the same way as any other hire, just matched to who's actually riding: a rear-mounted child seat fitted to an adult's bike for a toddler, children's bikes in a range of sizes for kids riding themselves, and city hybrids or e-bikes for the adults - all delivered to your accommodation together, with child-sized helmets included.

Bikes for Families

Matched to Who's Riding

🧬
Rear Child Seats
Fits any bike in the fleet except the carbon road bike, for a toddler old enough to sit supported. Mention it when booking so it's fitted before delivery.
🦺
Children's Bikes
A range of frame sizes for children riding on their own, roughly from age 3 upwards, plus balance bikes for younger children not yet on pedals.
👶
Bikes for the Adults
City hybrids or e-bikes for the grown-ups, so hills and distance aren't a factor for whoever's carrying a child seat.
Child-Sized Helmets
Included at no extra cost alongside every children's bike or child seat, fitted correctly before delivery.
Suggested Route

The Family Tour

A private guided route run by The London Bicycle Tour Company's own guides, paced specifically for children and starting and finishing at your own address rather than a shop.

Cycling with Children

Practical Guidance

01
Use the parks and protected lanes

Central London's royal parks - Hyde Park, St James's Park, Regent's Park - offer largely traffic-free riding, and much of the Family Tour route uses protected cycle lanes and backstreets rather than main roads.

02
Ride outside peak traffic hours

Mid-morning to mid-afternoon is generally quieter on London's roads than the weekday commuter rush - a comfortable window for a family ride if you have flexibility in your day.

03
A guide takes the route-planning off your hands

If you'd rather not navigate with children in tow, the private Family Tour is guided end to end, so the only job left for parents is enjoying the ride.

04
Everything arrives checked and fitted

Child seats and children's bikes are adjusted and checked before delivery, not assembled on your doorstep - one less thing to worry about with children waiting to ride.

Yes. We fit a rear-mounted child seat to any bike in our fleet except the carbon road bike, so a parent can ride with a toddler old enough to sit supported and wear a helmet. Just mention it when you book and we'll have it fitted and ready for delivery.
Our children's bikes come in a range of frame sizes suitable from around age 3 upwards, and balance bikes are available for younger children who aren't riding with pedals yet. Tell us the ages and rough heights of the children in your group and we'll match the right sizes.
Yes - the private Family Tour is paced specifically for children, runs around 3 hours on quiet roads and cycle lanes, includes a park stop, and can be extended for older or more confident riders. It starts and finishes at your own accommodation rather than a shop.
Yes. Child-sized helmets are included alongside children's bikes and child seats at no extra cost, along with a secure lock for each bike.
Central London has protected cycle lanes and largely traffic-free stretches through its royal parks that make family cycling comfortable, and our guided Family Tour is routed specifically to use these - quiet backstreets, park paths and a stop to rest. For independent family rides, we're happy to suggest a similarly gentle route based on where you're staying.
